PT_BR The harvest of the 2026 second corn crop reached 4.4% of the cultivated area in the Center-South of Brazil on Thursday (04), compared to 2.4% a week earlier and 1.9% in the same period last year (2025 second crop), according to a survey by AgRural.
The pace of work continues to be driven by Mato Grosso, followed at a distance by Paraná, where the harvest has not yet gained momentum due to high humidity. The new development this week is that Mato Grosso do Sul has also begun harvesting in isolated areas.
Production
At the end of May, AgRural completed a new monthly review of its corn production estimate for the 2025/26 crop year. Projected production for the 2026 second crop fell in Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo due to drought. However, this decline was partially offset by good yields expected in other states in the Center-South region, particularly Mato Grosso. As a result, the estimated production for Brazil fell by only 900,000 tons compared to the previous estimate, to 108.2 million tons.
This estimate, combined with Conab's figures for the first and third harvests, results in a total corn production of 139.9 million tons in Brazil's 2025/26 season, compared to 138.9 million in the previous estimate and 113.2 million tons in the 2024/25 cycle.
