Egg prices rise by more than 36%, strengthening the exchange rate with corn and soybeans.

The sharp increases in egg prices recorded up to February 25th have boosted the purchasing power of poultry farmers in São Paulo in relation to the main inputs for the activity: corn and soybean meal. This movement interrupts a sequence of price drops that had lasted five months for corn and seven months for soybean meal, according to researchers from [organization name missing]. Cepea.

In Bastos (SP), the average price of extra-large white eggs, to be picked up (FOB), was R$ 147.98 per box of 30 dozen in this partial month of February, an increase of 36.7% compared to January. For red eggs, the average was R$ 166.57 per box, an increase of 37% in the same comparison.

Based on ESALQ/BM&FBovespa Indicator Regarding corn, the São Paulo producer managed to acquire 131.22 kilos of the cereal with the sale of a box of white eggs or 147.77 kilos with the sale of a box of red eggs, volumes 36.7% and 37.1% higher than those of January, respectively.

In the case of soybean meal traded on the Campinas (SP) bulk market, purchasing power also increased. With the sale of a box of white eggs, the poultry farmer could buy 80.27 kilos of the input, while with a box of red eggs it was possible to acquire 90.40 kilos. The increases were 41.3% and 41.7%, respectively, compared to the previous month.
