Surveys by Cepea show that, for the first time since the avian flu outbreak at a commercial farm in Brazil in May, average chicken meat prices have risen compared to the previous month.
According to the Research Center, in the partial data for September (up to the 24th), frozen chicken is traded in the wholesale market of Greater São Paulo at an average R$ of 7.40/kg, 6.3% above that of August, but still below the R$ of 8.60/kg of May/25.
Researchers explain that the recovery in prices is mainly linked to the rebound in Brazilian poultry meat exports throughout this month, which has been helping to reduce domestic supply.
The resumption of sales to the European Union in the second half of this month – shipments to the bloc had been suspended since May – as well as the expectation of resuming shipments to China, reinforce the optimism of the national sector.
