In the first four months of this year, Santa Catarina achieved its best performance in the last 28 years in meat exports for the period as a whole. From January to April, the state shipped 677.6 thousand tons of meat (chicken, pork, turkey, duck, geese, beef and others), generating revenue of US$1.47 billion. The figures represent increases of 7.3% in volume and 16.2% in revenue compared to the same period in 2024, consolidating the state as one of the main exporting hubs in the sector in the country.
In April alone, Santa Catarina exported 179.1 thousand tons, with revenue of US$$ 398.4 million – the second best monthly result in the historical series in value, behind only October 2024.
The figures are released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) and systematized by the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri/Cepa). “Our state produces a lot of meat and of very high quality. The figures only show that we have producers committed to providing the best meat, a competitive private sector and the State that monitors, guarantees animal health and encourages production”, emphasizes Governor Jorginho Mello.
According to the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chiodini, the results confirm the positive projections for the sector and reinforce Santa Catarina’s potential as the country’s leading exporter of pork and second largest exporter of chicken. “Santa Catarina has a highly qualified agricultural production model, with health and technological standards that meet the demands of the most competitive markets in the world. The numbers reaffirm our international prominence and the strategic relevance of agribusiness for the state’s economy. We will continue to strive, under the leadership of Governor Jorginho Mello, to expand markets, add value to production and further strengthen the competitiveness of Santa Catarina’s production sector,” says Chiodini.
Chicken
Chicken meat stood out with the export of 108.3 thousand tons in April, generating revenue of US$$ 229.7 million. The numbers represent growth of 2.1% in volume and 4.6% in value compared to March. Compared to April 2024, the increases were 4.3% and 14.5%, respectively.
In the first four months of the year, the state exported 415.3 thousand tons of chicken meat, with revenue of US$1.5T 846.7 million – increases of 8.91T4T and 17.31T4T compared to the same period last year. This is the best performance ever recorded for the first four months since the beginning of the historical series.
The main destinations for Santa Catarina chicken meat during the period were the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, China and Japan, which together accounted for 44.7% of shipments. China was the highlight, with growth of 30.5% in imported volume and 43.3% in revenue, compared to the same period in 2024. The Netherlands and Saudi Arabia also showed significant increases in revenue: 23.2% and 36.4%, respectively.
Santa Catarina was responsible for 22.9% of the volume and 24.8% of the total revenue from Brazilian chicken meat exports in the year.
Pigs
Pork also showed record performance. In April, the state exported 64.7 thousand tons, with revenue of US$155.8 million – increases of 10.9% in volume and 8.5% in value compared to March. Compared to April 2024, growth was 7.1% and 12.4%, respectively. The result represents the best April in the historical series started in 1997, both in volume and revenue.
In the four-month period, Santa Catarina shipped 240.3 thousand tons of pork, with revenues of US$$ 579.1 million – increases of 8.7% and 17.7%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The main markets were Japan (20.5% of revenue), China (19.5%) and the Philippines (19.3%). Japan stood out with a growth of 64.9% in purchases of pork from Santa Catarina, compared to the first four months of last year. Santa Catarina remains the national leader in the segment, accounting for 53.6% of the volume and 54% of revenue from Brazilian exports in the period.
