Rice cultivation in Brazil is an important economic activity involving production, trade and employment. Brazil is one of the largest rice producers in the world and the largest in Latin America. Brazil produces, on average, 10 million tons of rice per harvest. Rio Grande do Sul is the main rice producing state in Brazil. The irrigated system predominates, accounting for 79.5% of rice crops.
Cultivation and Harvest
  • Planting period: In the South, planting takes place between September and November. In the Northeast, planting takes place between April and June.
  • Harvest period: The harvest takes place between February and April in the South and between July and September in the Northeast.
  • Region that produces the most: Rio Grande do Sul leads production, with estimates of 7 million tons in the 2022/2023 harvest.
