PT_BR Western Paraná will be the focus of the Harvest Rally for the evaluation of second-crop corn crops starting on Monday (08). The expedition will leave Campo Grande (MS) and will travel, until the 15th, through the regions of Guaíra, Marechal Cândido Rondon, Toledo, Cascavel, Ubiratã, Goioerê, Campo Mourão and Maringá.
Benefiting from an earlier planting window, western Paraná presents more positive prospects for corn productivity compared to the north of the state, where late planting and periods of drought compromised part of the crop development. The west also experienced a period of drought, however, throughout April and May, rain returned to the state more regularly. So far, the frosts that occurred in May have not affected the crops extensively, and the losses have been localized.
“The field assessments from this penultimate Rally team are crucial for understanding the impacts of the weather on productive potential and adjusting our figures until the end of June, when we will conclude the corn stage,” explains André Debastiani, expedition coordinator.
Pre-Rally data from Agroconsult indicates a second Brazilian corn crop of 112.1 million tons, a volume lower than the record 123.9 million tons registered in the 2024/25 cycle. Total corn production in the country is estimated at 140.5 million tons, compared to 151 million tons in the previous cycle. "There is room for adjustments in the estimates, depending on field data," points out the Rally coordinator.
The expedition has already visited important production centers.
In its first stage this year, the Rally assessed the conditions of more than 1,700 soybean crops during the development and harvest phases in 14 states. The evaluated crops account for 97% of the soybean production area and 72% of the corn area in the country.
Since May 11th, the Harvest Rally has been traveling through the main corn-producing regions of the country in five states. The teams have already visited different regions of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Rondônia, and Mato Grosso do Sul, evaluating weather conditions, crop development, investments made by producers, and productivity prospects. After the stage in western and northwestern Paraná, the last team will conduct the survey in southern Mato Grosso do Sul and northern Paraná, concluding the corn harvest fieldwork on June 23rd.
