The price of soy In Mato Grosso, the price of soybean processing rose again in August 2026, putting pressure on the gross crushing margin of the state's processing industries. According to data released by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the margin fell by 11.97% compared to July, to an average of R$ 383.31 per ton, the lowest level for the month in the last three years. This movement occurred amidst the appreciation of the soybean sack in the state. In August, the grain was traded, on average, at R$ 130.88 per sack, an increase from R$ 13.58 per sack, or 11.58%, compared to July.
According to data released by Imea, the price increase is occurring during an off-season period and also follows the appreciation of international prices, given concerns related to the 2026/27 US harvest. The rise in the cost of raw materials has reduced the margin obtained by industries in the processing of the oilseed. With soybeans more expensive, crushing began operating with a lower gross margin in August. Despite the scenario of tighter industrial margins, soybean crushing in Mato Grosso continues at a high pace in 2026.
According to data released by Imea, the state accumulated 8.26 million tons of crushed sugarcane between January and July, an increase of 4.621 TP4T compared to the same period in 2025. This performance represents a record for processing during this period and is mainly due to the strong demand from the biofuel sector.
The strength of the domestic market has increased the need for soybean processing within the state itself. Even with industry margins pressured by the rising price of the grain, demand for the products resulting from crushing remains high.
This scenario also interferes with the dynamics of shipments. According to data released by Imea, although soybean exports still show good volumes, the strengthening of domestic demand in Mato Grosso has limited more significant volumes of grain shipments. The combination of higher soybean prices and strong domestic demand creates a scenario of concern for processing industries. On the one hand, the appreciation of the raw material reduces the gross crushing margin; on the other hand, the biofuel market sustains industrial activity.
In August, the average margin of R$ 383.31 per ton was 11.97% lower than that recorded in July. According to data released by Imea, this was the lowest level for the period in the last three years. At the same time, soybeans closed August with an average price of R$ 130.88 per sack in Mato Grosso, an increase of 11.58% in just one month.
The increase in grain prices is occurring during the off-season and amidst the reaction of international prices to concerns about the 2026/27 North American harvest. Even with pressure on margins, processing continues to grow. The accumulated 8.26 million tons between January and July represents an increase of 4.621 TP4T compared to the same period in 2025.
According to data released by Imea, the expansion is driven by strong demand from the biofuel sector, which strengthens the domestic market in Mato Grosso. As a result, the dynamics of soybean production in the state are now marked by two simultaneous movements: the appreciation of the grain reduces the profit margins of the industries, while domestic demand keeps crushing at record levels.
This strengthening of processing also reduces the scope for a more significant expansion of soybean shipments, despite the good volumes still recorded in exports.
