During a visit to the Administrative Center of Lar Cooperativa, on the morning of last Tuesday (11), the president of ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal Protein), Ricardo Santin, gave a press conference where he announced the significant increase in Brazilian exports of animal protein in February, with emphasis on the growth of 17.9% in chicken meat and 17% in pork, a record for the period analyzed.
“The demand for animal protein in the world has increased and the scenario is very favorable for Brazil. In general, health issues have had a strong influence on the international market and our country is free of avian influenza and African swine fever, two diseases with many confirmed cases in every corner of the world. Our preventive work is exemplary and has opened up business opportunities for Brazil,” stated Ricardo Santin.
The president of ABPA highlighted the ongoing guidance to ensure that Brazil remains free of diseases that could harm animal protein production. “We need to maintain our practices, with producers strictly following technical guidelines to protect production. We must do what has always been done. Brazil stands out in relation to other countries that face difficulties in controlling these diseases and the performance of exports to date indicates that the initial projections will be exceeded and we will have an excellent year in 2025”, assessed Ricardo Santin.
Chicken Meat
The ABPA survey revealed that Brazilian chicken meat exports broke a record in February 2025, with 468.4 thousand tons shipped, an increase of 17.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 397.2 thousand tons were registered. The volume considers all products, in natura and processed, and was the highest result achieved within the period analyzed.
The dollar result of chicken meat exports registered an even more significant increase, of 23.1%. In February of this year, exports totaled US$ 870.4 million, surpassing the US$ 707 million of the same period of the previous year.
Cumulative exports in January and February this year reached 911.4 thousand tons, exceeding by 13.6% the volume recorded in the first two months of last year, which was 802.2 thousand tons. In terms of revenue, the growth was even more expressive: US$1.696 billion this year, against US$1.390 billion in the previous year, representing an increase of 22%.
In February, China led Brazil in chicken meat imports, with 49.6 thousand tons, an increase of 18.1% compared to the previous year. The state of Paraná remains the largest exporter of chicken meat in the country, with 186 thousand tons exported in February (+15.9% compared to the same period last year), followed by Santa Catarina, with 106.6 thousand tons (+15.5%).
Pork
According to the ABPA survey, this growth rate was also present in Brazilian pork exports, which reached a record for the month of February. Including fresh and processed products, exports reached 114.4 thousand tons. This volume represents an increase of 17% compared to the 97.8 thousand tons exported in the same period last year.

In terms of revenue, pork exports recorded a significant increase of 32.6% in February this year, totaling US$$ 272.9 million, compared to US$$ 205.7 million obtained in the same period last year. In the comparison of the first two months of the year, pork exports increased by 11.6%, totaling 220.4 thousand tons, compared to 197.5 thousand tons in the same period of 2024.
The Philippines remains the main destination for Brazilian pork exports, with 23 thousand tons in February (+72% compared to the previous year).
Visit to the Cooperative Home
The president of ABPA is in Paraná with a series of preparatory meetings for the association's budget meeting and to define details of the general assembly scheduled for April. In Medianeira (PR), in addition to meeting with the local press, Ricardo Santin met with the CEO of Lar Cooperativa and president of the ABPA Board of Directors, Irineo da Costa Rodrigues.
During the meeting, leaders of Lar Cooperativa attended a presentation, led by Ricardo Santin, which detailed the main figures achieved in the first two months of the year, in addition to the analysis of the current scenario and projections for the performance of the domestic and foreign markets.
