Mato Grosso is responsible for approximately 3% of global beef exports. If it were a country, it would rank 9th in the world export ranking, according to data from the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
In 2024, the state produced 1.7 million tons of beef, leading the national ranking with 17.1% of Brazilian production. 6.6 million animals were slaughtered in the period, consolidating Mato Grosso's leadership as the largest producer of animal protein in Brazil.
“Mato Grosso is an important center for beef production and has gained prominence in the international market not only for the volume of fresh meat, but also for the export of offal and by-products of animal origin. The continuous growth in exports in recent years has made the sector increasingly optimistic”, says the Project Director of the Mato Grosso Meat Institute (Imac), Bruno de Jesus Andrade.
In 2025, the pace of production will remain strong, with prospects for the opening of new markets. From January to May, the state has already slaughtered 7.3 million head of cattle, with a highlight in the month of May, when more than 553.2 thousand heads were processed.
Among the factors supporting the sector's optimism is the recent authorization, granted in June, for the export of animal by-products intended for the manufacture of extracts for pharmaceutical use to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan will now import items such as retina, prostate, scapular cartilage, ovaries and thymus glands from Brazilian cattle.
“The Eurasian Economic Union represents a market of 185 million inhabitants and has increased its demand for pharmaceutical inputs of animal origin. This new authorization is part of the strategy to diversify the export agenda, with the aim of reducing dependence on a few purchasing countries and expanding the global reach of our products”, reinforces the director of Imac.
