The harvest of second-crop corn crops continues to advance slowly in Brazil. According to Conab's crop monitoring data, as of last Sunday (5), 27.7% of the crops had already been harvested.
The index rose from the 17% recorded up until last week, but is behind the 61.1% recorded in the same period last year and the 39.5% average of the last five seasons.
The work is more advanced in Mato Grosso (57.2%), Tocantins (36.2%), Maranhão (36%), Piauí (26.2%), Minas Gerais (21.4%), Goiás (17.6%), Paraná (17%), Mato Grosso do Sul (14.8%) and São Paulo (9.6%).
At the same time, 64.6% of the areas are already maturing and 7.7% are still in grain filling.
CONAB technicians emphasize that the high operational capacity has enabled significant harvest progress in Mato Grosso, with yields continuing to exceed initial estimates. Harvesting is also progressing amid dry weather in Minas Gerais.
In Paraná, harvesting has been virtually halted due to high grain moisture levels caused by rainfall and low temperatures. Mato Grosso do Sul also faces high grain moisture levels, but harvesting there is still progressing, albeit slowly.
